FIRS Insists On VAT Collection, Despite Court’s Ruling

Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIIRS) has asked all tax payers to continue paying value added tax and other personal taxes into its coffer on behalf of federal government

A federal high court in Port Harcourt a few days ago had ruled that FIIRS had no constitutional powers to collect such taxes in the states

FIIRS in a statement by its director of Communications and Liason on Sunday night, said it has appealed against the ruling, as well as filing an application for a stay in the execution of the order of the court

With the step taken, FIRRS warns that any taxpayers in the states which failed to pay vat and other personnel taxes into its coffern will be sanctioned

Already, rivers state government which filed the application against FIIRS at federal high court, had already passed a bill to enforce the judgement in the state
