FG to review UBEC counterpart funding

Modalities are being worked out to ease the counterpart funding required by the state governments to access the N64.8 billion idle in the Universal Basic Education (UBE) fund.

Education Minister, Mallam Adamu Adamu, who made this known, said the counterpart fund payable by the state governments as matching grant for UBEC fund, might be reduced or scrapped.

The Minister said Ogun state and 26 other state governments failed to access the fund for the year 2015, following their failure to pay the counterpart fund.

He said only eight states, including Oyo, Ekiti, Kwara, Bayelsa, Zamfara, Enugu, Plateau, Rivers, Nasarawa, Abia and Niger as well as the Federal Capital Territory, accessed the fund last year.
