FG SAYS NO FUND TO MEET STRIKING DOCTORS DEMANDS

Federal government has said it lacks fund required to meet the demands of the striking resident doctors, which has crippled services at Federal Tertiary Hospitals nationwide

Already, the salaries and allowances of the resident doctors had been stopped to force them to suspend the prolonged strike

Health minister of state, Doctor Olorunimbe Mamora, says there is no fund to immediately meet the demands of the striking doctors

Mamora, speaking at a meeting with the States Health Commissioners, Development Partners in Abuja, urges the striking doctors to return to work

According to the minister, the issues raised by the doctors are genuine and legitimate, but reminds them that this is a period of pandemic

In the civil service, the minister says there is no quick fix to such issues He told the commissioners that there is the need for government to generate more revenue, to cope with the challenges in the health sector in term of emolument, incentives and other welfare packages for health workers
