FG Says Land Gazetted For Ruga Settlements In 36 States

The Presidency says it has gazetted some portion of land in the 36 states for the establishment of the RUGA settlement for herders and their cattle.

It, however, explains that it is optional for each of the State Governments to decide whether to participate or not in the programme.

Presidential Spokesman, Sheu Garba, in a statement says that 12 States had indicated interest in the pilot programme, in which migrant herders will be settled with their cattle to stop them from roaming across States.

According to Garba, the RUGA settlement will be provided with basic amenities, such as hospitals, schools, veterinary clinics, markets and manufacturing plants for processing and add value to meat and other animals.
