FG requests states to take over Federal roads

Presidency has asked State Governments that have the capability to take over federal roads in their areas to do so immediately.

Power, Works and Housing Minister, Raji Fashola said the offer will relieve the presidency of the rising bill of road maintenance.

Fashola who announced the decision to the state house correspondents after the meeting of the Federal Executive Council presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, said such takeover of federal roads would save most of the roads from further deterioration.

For instance, he said Kaduna State Government had requested the redesignation of Nnamdi Azikiwe and Ahmadu Bello streets in Kaduna metropolis as the state roads, to enable it fix the roads without seeking reimbursement from the Presidency.
