FG plans new Power Plants

The Presidency plans to construct new power plant close to sources of energy nationwide to reduce dependence on gas fired plants now almost grounded by an acute shortage of natural gas.

Works, Power and Housing Minister, Raji Fashola who made this known to newsmen in Kano at the end of the sixth power sector meeting, listed the new energy sources to be exploited as including coal, hydro and solar.

The minister said the decision was largely influenced by the vandalization of gas pipeline in the Niger Delta region which has cut supply of gas to most of the power stations in the country.

Fashola said the proposed power plants will ready in 18 months.
