FG to distribute 3 million insecticide treated nets in Ogun

Three million insecticide treated mosquito nets are to be distributed in Ogun State, to fight the prevalence of malaria in the state.

The three million nets, which are to be given out free between March and May, is costing N3 billion.

Director of Public Health in the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Evelyn Ngige, made this known in Abeokuta, while leading a team on advocacy visit to Governor Ibikunle Amosun, at the Governor’s Office, Oke Mosan.

She said the programme will be carried out by the Global Health Fund for Malaria and Tuberculosis (GHFMT) in conjunction with the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and the NMEP.

She asked Ogun State government to support the programme with the provision of trained personnel and storage facilities for the nets in all the state’s local government areas.

Amosun promised that, the state government will take ownership of the programme by embarking on massive mobilization of health workers and enlightenment campaign.

The governor said traditional rulers, community leaders and relevant government agencies will be involved in the programme.
