Communication minister, Adebayo Shittu, has acknowledged the receipt of n50 billion down payment by MTN Nigeria, out of the N780 billion imposed on it by the Nigeria communication commission (NCC).
The minister in a statement, also confirmed that MTN had withdrawn its suit filed at a federal high court against NCC, to challenge the imposition of the fine.
He said the N50 billion was paid by the telecommunication firm pending further negotiation on the fine.
MTN was fined N1.04 trillion last October 1, for failing to disconnect over five million unregistered sim cards from its network within the stipulated period.
NCC after pleading by MTN later reduced the fine to N780 billion.
