Federal government and China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) have signed a memorandum of understanding for the construction of the Lagos-Calabar and Lagos-Kano rail modernization projects.
Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi who signed for Nigeria in Abuja, said the projects would be completed before the end of 2018, while construction work would begin on the Lagos-Kano rail project before November.
The minister explained that Nigeria in line with requirements of the China EximBank who is providing credit for the multi-billion projects, will pay its counterpart fund to kickstart the project.
Manging Director of the Chinese company, Jack Li, said the projects would be completed in a record time, while promising that the Lagos-Calabar coastline rail project would be better than the just completed Abuja-Kaduna rail project.
