The presidency has faulted the seven day deadline issued by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to herders to vacate forest reserves in Ondo state
The governor, while issuing the deadline, had explained that herders had turned the forest reserves into a den for keeping kidnap victims, collecting ransom, as well as committing other crimes
But the presidency, in a statement by President Buhari’s Media Aide, Garba Sheu, warns that the state governor could not on his own, issue such a deadline, which if carried out, will violate the fundamental human rights of other law abiding Fulani Herders in the state
It also says the planned eviction could set off a chain of events which the makers of Nigerian constitution had tried to guard against
According to the presidency, it is wrong to link terrorism and other crimes to an ethnic group
It asks the Ondo state government and Fulani leaders to continue with their ongoing dialogue for a good understanding to effectively tackle security challenges facing the state To other state governors, the presidency asks them to draw a clear line between criminals and law abiding citizens, who also must be saved from infiltration by criminals
