Former presidents and heads of state are to be allocated with new vehicles this year as part of their entitlements.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, made this known while appearing before the Senate Federal Character Commission in Abuja.
He said that N400 million is voted in the 2017 budget for the purchase of the vehicles.
Vice Chairman of the Committee, Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi had asked the SGF to respond to the non-payment of former presidents’ allowances.
Hunkuyi, who represents Kaduna North lawmaker said a situation where former leaders were being owed was unacceptable.
Lawal who is defending the 2017 budgetary allocation of N9.88 billion to his office before the committee, also said that funds for the payment of the outstanding allowances of the former leaders have been captured in the budget.
