FG-Asuu Talks Deadlocked Over Payment Platform

For a second time within a week, the fresh negotiations between the federal government and academic staff union of universities (ASUU) has broken down

This has dashed the hope of students in federal universities for an early reopening of their institutions shut down since last march by ASUU strike and Covid-19 pandemic

The fresh negotiations broke down on Wednesday, following the continued disagreement on the mode of paying the salary arrears of the striking lecturers and the n30 billion earned allowance promised by the federal government

Federal government’s negotiators said the salary arrears will be paid through the integrated personnel payment system (IPPIS), pending the conclusion of the ongoing integrity test on the payment platform submitted by ASUU

But ASUU team insisted that the payment must be channelled through its payment platform-the university transparency and accountability solution (UTAS) The sharp disagreement forced both parties to adjourn their negotiations till next week
