Fayemi Urges Those Agitating For Nigeria’s Break Up To Have A Rethink

Chairman of Nigeria governors forum, Kayode Fayemi has urged those agitating for the breakup of Nigeria to have a rethink.

The governor made the call in a lecture delivered during the anniversary of Zik lecture at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

Fayemi asks them to learn from the bitter experience of South Sudan which recently broke away from Sudan.

According to Fayemi, two years after parting way with Sudan, South Sudan engaged in a civil war, in which over 400,000 people had died and over four million people displaced.

The governor said there is absolutely nothing heroic about dying foolishly for a cause for which dialogue can provide a pathway to workable solutions.

Nigeria, according to him, does not need to go through another war or break up to arrive at a consensus way of managing their diversity.

Fayemi said what Nigeria requires to manage their diversity and achieve a more perfect union is a democratic system that meet the aspirations of Nigerians and restore trust in elected officials

Nigeria, according to him, needs to start strengthening pillars that unite its citizens than fanning embers of disunity and break up.
