Farmers, millers promise to crash price of rice to N6,000 per 50 kg bag

Rice farmers have promised to crash the price of 50 kilogramme of the commodity to N6,000, in coming months.

Top officials of the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria gave the assurance at a meeting with agriculture and rural development minister, Chief Audu Ogbeh, attended by officials of the Rice Millers Association of Nigeria.

The Rice Farmers Association’s president, Mallam Aminu Goronyo, said members of the association are expecting a bumper harvest this season.

Goronyo explained that they expect price of rice to drop to N6,000 per 50 kilogramme, if the federal government further assist them in reducing their cost of production.

President of Rice Millers Association of Nigeria, Mohammed Abubakar, said with the federal government’s intervention, members had agreed to sell a tonne of paddy rice at N110,00, instead of N150,000, to crash the price of a 50 kilogramme to N13,500.
