A Psychologist and Educationist, Doctor Samuel Ezeani, has asked the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria to include moral development test as part of its professional education for new entrants into teaching profession.
The moral test, according to him, will address the moral decadency in the country, especially in the educational sector.
Ezeani, making the call while delivering the Eightieth Edition of Inaugural Lecture of Federal College of Education, Osiele, Abeokuta, describes the spate of immoral behaviors in the country, as alarming.
He says the incident of kidnapping, raping, armed robbery, examination malpractices, sex for marks, drug abuse, fraud, tribalism, among others are on the increase on daily basis.
Ezeani expressing concern over the trend, says despite the increase in the number of religious organizations, the moral crisis is unabated, adding that this is threatening the national development.
He asks the religious, political and traditional leaders to place morality above other perquisites in choosing leaders in the society, to serve as role models to the present and next generations.
