The Senate has directed Governor Godwin Obaseki, to immediately issue a fresh proclamation for the inauguration of the Edo State House of Assembly.
The Senate gives the governor one week, to comply with the directive or it will take over the assembly.
It passes the resolution after adopting the report of an Ad Hoc committee set up to investigate the leadership crisis in the House of Assembly.
The resolution aligns with the earlier directive of the House of Representatives which has extended its deadline to the governor beyond the initial one week.
Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, during the Tuesday plenary, warns that the upper chamber will invoke its constitutional powers to take over the legislative functions of the House of Assembly if the governor fails to obey the directive after seven days.
The governor, last Sunday, had rejected the directive of the House of Representatives, on the ground that the constitution only allow him to issue such a proclamation once which he has done.
