Pan Ndigbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has warned that Nigeria cannot afford another civil war.
The organization’s president, Chief John Nwodo, issuing the warning during a visit to Governor Aminu Tambuwal at the Sokoto State Government House in Sokoto, said a fresh civil war will affect the Ndigbo, who have millions of their people outside the South East region.
For instance, Nwodo said the entire people in South East region will mourn, if there is any disturbance in Kano, which hosts about 1.6 million Ndigbo.
War, according to the Ohanaeze Ndigbo president, created more harm than good, and should not be encouraged.
“Yes, our country is going through a trying period. We should, under any circumstances, not experience another civil war. We should not allow personal emotions to undermine our national unity,” he stated.
Assuring northerners living in the South East region of their safety, Nwodo said the unity and peaceful co-existence should be a collective responsibilities of all Nigerians.
The former minister also commended Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar‘s recent statement saying ‘whoever wants to attack the Igbo, should attack him first’.
“In the same vein, I came with the assurances of the South-East governors that any Igbo who wants to kill a northerner, should first kill them,” Nwodo further said.
“We must remain partners in progress of our country, as we have seen how our own fathers and forefathers live to make it grow and develop to its present stage,” Nwodo said. Please subscribe to our newsletter
