Doctors should never go on strike -Minister

Labour and Employment Minister, Chris Ngige, has said that medical doctors are not supposed to go on strike under any circumstance.

The Minister said by going on strikes, medical doctors are violating the oath they swore to, while being inducted into the medical profession.

Ngige who stated this in Abuja, at the 2016 annual general meeting of the Federal Capital Territory chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association, admitted that previous governments failed to honour agreement reached with doctors on their remunerations and welfare.

He, however, said doctors by embarking on strikes to protest the default instead of engaging  in negotiations, are endangering lives of patients and other stakeholders in the health sector.
