The take-off of free deworming of students in Ogun State’s public primary and secondary schools, has been disrupted by the rumour of the death of some of the students, administered with the drug.
The deworming programme was sponsored by the state government to improve the health of students in the state’s public schools.
For several hours on Wednesday morning, there was confusion in most of the schools in Abeokuta, the state capital, as parents besieged schools to withdraw their children, to prevent them from being dewormed.
The situation was the same in Sagamu and some other parts of the state.
The situation in some of the schools degenerated into level where some of the parents and the school authorities engaged in hot exchange of words.
Meanwhile, Ogun state government has asked parents to ignore the rumour that some students died during the ongoing deworming programme in schools in the state
Health commissioner, Doctor Babatunde Ipaye, in an interview with Seyi Ipadeola, explained that the deworming exercise aims at aiding the growth and health status of children, and not to harm them in any way. Please subscribe to our newsletter
