Africa’s richest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has asked the organized private sector to assist Government in funding public universities.
Dangote says Government alone cannot provide adequate fund for the entire budget of public universities due to the competing needs of other sectors.
The business magnate, speaking at the convocation ceremony of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, notes that the student population in public universities is recording significance increase without a corresponding growth in their infrastructure.
Private sector, according to him, needs to fill the gap in the funding of public universities by going beyond the two percent education levy.
Dangote explains it is in line with such thinking that the Dangote Foundation built 10 blocks of fully equipped accommodation for 2,160 students at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
