Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Retired Colonel Hameed Ali, has directed the customs strike force to raid suspected warehouses and markets in Ogun State and other five states in south west region
The comptroller general, issuing the directive, ordered the strike force to search and evacuate smuggled rice and other contraband from the warehouses and markets in the region
Commander of the Strike Force, Deputy Comptroller General Ahmadu Shuaib, who is in charge of customs zone ‘A’ unit, made this known to newsmen in Lagos
He says that 1,930 bags of fifty kilogrammes of smuggled rice were evacuated from warehouses of smugglers in Ogun and Lagos states in the past two weeks
The deputy comptroller general says that smugglers are now finding it difficult to move in smuggled rice in large quantities due to the intensive raids by the strike force of smuggling routes in the two states
Following this, Shuaib says that smugglers are now resorting to motorcycles to bring in smuggled rice in small quantities.
