Court sacks Modu Sheriff as PDP Chairman

An Abuja high court has removed Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as the Acting National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), describing his emergence as the party leader as illegal.

Justice Valentine Ashi in his ruling, said the process which produced Sheriff as the interim PDP Chairman was illegal

The judge revoked the 2014 PDP amended constitution used to appoint Sheriff as its Interim Chairman, saying it violated the provisions of the Electoral Act.

The court’s decision has cleared the way for Senator Ahmed Makarfi appointed by all organs of the party, to take over the leadership of the party after running battle with Sheriff faction since the disputed Port Harcourt National Convention.
