Court orders Buhari to try national assembly leadership over 2016 budget padding

A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered President Muhammadu Buhari, to immediately direct the investigation of the alleged padding and stealing of N481 billion, from the 2016 budget by some principal officers of the national assembly.

Justice Mohammed Idris, issues the directive in a landmark judgment in a suit filed by Socio Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP).

The judge, ordered the president to forward the reports of the investigation of the alleged budget padding to the attorney general of the federation and anti-graft agencies to begin the prosecution of lawmakers indicted in the report.

He also orders Buhari to urgently halt the alleged attempt by some principal officers of the national assembly to steal n40 billion out of n100 billion allocated for zonal intervention in the 2017 budget.
