A federal high court, Abuja, has okayed the ongoing recruitment of additional 10,000 constables into the Police Force by the force headquaters.
Justice Inyang Ekwo approves the recruitment, while ruling on a suit filed by the police service commission, challenging the inspector general of police over the recruitment.
The court rules that the Nigeria Police regulation of 1968 vests the Inspector General of police with powers to recruit constables, while the police service commission is to appoint those recruited.
The police service commission by challenging the recruitment exercise, according to the judge amounts to the commission attempting to usurp the powers of the Inspector General of Police to recruit police constables.
The tussle for the control of the recruitment exercise by the two bodies had delayed the injection of the new 10,000 constable which had been recruited into the force.
