Court again grants detained Sambo Dasuki bail from DSS custody

A Federal High Court in Abuja, has again granted bail to a former national security adviser, retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki who was detained by the Department of Security Service (DSS).

The trial judge, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, granted the bail in the sum of N200 million, and two sureties in the sum of N100 million each.

The two sureties must not be lower than a grade level 16 in the civil service or a private individual, who must have landed property in Asokoro, Utako or Garki, Abuja.

The judge in her judgement in the application filed by Dasuki, said his continuing detention over the last two and a half years, is a gross violation of the rule of law.

DSS, according to the judge, cannot give itself powers to punish suspects , adding that only courts have powers to do so at the end of trial.
