The senate chief whip, Orji Uzor Kalu has been jailed 12 years by a Federal High court in Lagos for stealing n7.6 billion from the coffer of Abia State Government while he was its governor between 1999 and 2007.
Justice Mohammed Idris delivered the judgement in the 12 year old official corruption case instituted against the former governor since 2007.
The judge found Kalu guilty on all the 39 charges filed against him by EFCC.
The former governor begs prison warders who were taking him to prison not to handcuff him publicly, promising to follow them.
Some women wept as the Former Governor was being taken away.
Kalu was tried along with his company, Slok (Nigeria) limited, and former finance and account director in his Administration, Udeh Udeogwu.
The judge sentenced Udeogwu 10 years, and ordered slok (Nigeria) limited to wind up.
The prosecutor, Rotimi Jacobs also told the court during the trial that Kalu laundered n460 million from the state treasury between July and December 2007.
