The Presidency has dismissed claims by Governor Ayodele Fayose that Aisha Buhari, the Wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, was involved in the bribery scandal for which the US congressman, Williams Jeffferson was convicted in 2009.
The Presidency warned Fayose, that free speech does not allow him to continue to falsely accuse innocent people for crimes they know nothing about.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, in a statement, said the President’s Wife has no direct, indirect or remote connection with William Jefferson corruption scandal in the US.
He challenged Fayose to produce evidence from the record of the proceedings of investigations and subsequent trial of Jefferson to prove that Buhari’s wife, Aisha, was named in the scandal.
Garba said the Presidency would have ignored Fayose’s allegation, but that would have given credibility to the outright and brazen falsehood by a Governor.
