Community pharmacists charge government on economic downturn

Pharmacists seek review of duty on imported drug

Pharmacists have expressed concern over the rising prices of pharmaceutical products in the country.

The pharmacists, under the auspice of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria, say some brands of drug have been phased out from circulation, while multi-national pharmaceutical companies are leaving the country.

The Lagos state chairman of the association, Biola Paul-Oziah, speaking at the association’s annual general meeting in Ikeja, asked the Presidency to create enabling environment for pharmaceutical companies to source their raw material locally.

At the moment, she explained that local pharmaceutical industry depends on imported items for its finished products and raw material.
