Nigeria’s Chief Justice, Tanko Mohammed, has warned that the Supreme Court will jealously guard its independence from any form of interference from the executive arm of government.
Nigeria’s apex court, according to Justice Mohammed, is not afraid of anyone, except God.
Mohammed speaking at a special session of the court to mark the 2019/2020 legal year, says Nigerian judiciary is independent in conducting its affairs, taking decisions on matters without any external pressure.
He asks government at all levels, to stop disobeying court orders, warning that the trend is an invitation to anarchy.
Nigeria’s Chief Justice also says that the independence of the judiciary guaranteed by the constitution, is being threatened by inadequate funding, forcing it to always go cap in hand to the executive arm of government.
