Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has asked the Presidency to scrap the Corporate Governance Code issued by the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria to regulate the tenure of heads of religious bodies and civil society organizations.
CAN’S secretary, Reverend Moses Asake, addressing newsmen in Abuja, said the code is an attempt to weaken churches in Nigeria.
General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye in compliance with the code, resigned his leadership of the Nigeria’s chapter of the church on Saturday.
Since then, President Muhammadu Buhari had sacked the secretary of the Financial Reporting Council, dissolved its board and suspended the code for further extensive consultations.
The CAN secretary who warns that anyone who fight the church will lose, commended President Buhari for intervening in the issue, but further wants the code to be scrapped.
