Buhari will not seek re-election, says women affairs minister

Women Affairs Minister, Aisha Alhassan.

President Muhammadu Buhari will not stand for re-election in 2019, according to Women Affairs Minister, Aisha Alhassan.

The minister in an interview with a foreign news agency, recalled that Buhari told APC leaders before his election in 2015 that he will serve only one term.

She promised to quit Federal Executive Council, and back former vice president Atiku Abubakar for the 2019 Presidency, if Buhari changed his mind and seek re-election.

Alhassan who described Atiku as her political godfather, said Buhari will not fire her if she backs Atiku for the 2019 Presidency.

“If today Mr. President says he is running in 2019 I will go to him respectfully and thank him for giving me an opportunity to serve and then tell him that I have to resign because my political father may be running,” said Alhassan
