President Muhammadu Buhari has charged federal universities to look for more funds from external sources to effectively run the institutions.
Such external fund, according to the president, will compliment government subventions, which he says are inadequate to meet the financial requirements of federal universities.
Buhari made the call at the convocation ceremony of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike.
The president, represented by the deputy registrar of the National Universities Commission, Doctor Gidado Kumo, directed the governing councils of the universities to take the lead in tapping external sources for fresh fund.
Buhari also said that government would expect the federal universities to provide solutions to some of the problems facing the country.
