Buhari orders security chiefs to tackle security threats, keep Nigeria one

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the armed forces and other security agencies to deploy all their resources to protect the unity of Nigeria

He directs them to implement to the letter his pronouncement in Monday’s nationwide broadcast that the unity of Nigeria is not negotiable

Buhari issues the directive at a meeting with service chiefs and head of other security agencies at the Presidential Villa, Abuja

The meeting was attended by the Defence Minister, the Chief of Defence staff, the Army Chief of Staff, Chiefs of Air Staff, representative of Chief of Naval staff, as well as the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of Department of Security Service, and acting Director General of National Intelligence Agency

Chief of Defence staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin briefed the State House correspondents after the three hour meeting, saying, “Of course, we have just updated him because he is aware of what’s been happening. He has been receiving regular briefings from the acting president and he has also been going through the print media and electronic media to follow the happenings in the country.”

 

Buhari, according to General Olonishakin directedareas that should be given special attention to enhance security and operation.

On whether Buhari raised any question on the IPOB’s secret service, Olonishakin said, “The issues of security, every security threat, all security threats were treated one after the other ranging from terrorism to kidnapping, herdsmen/farmers clash, to IPOB issue were all treated. Comments were made as to what to do as regards those issues.”
