President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the immediate reinstatement of the security details of Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State.
Buhari, according to his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, issued the directive in Awka, shortly before attending the grand finale of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign for the state governorship poll coming up on Saturday.
Adesina said Governor Obiano while welcoming Buhari to Awka, had complained about the withdrawal of his security details.
Buhari immediately directed the Deputy Inspector General in-charge of operations, Joshak Habila to restore the security details.
Meanwhile, the Senate has asked the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to restore the security details of Governor Willie Obiano, ahead of the Saturday Anambra state governorship poll.
Governor Obiano on Tuesday had cried out that his life is in danger, following the withdrawal of his security details by the force headquarters
Senators deliberating on a motion on the issue on Wednesday, criticised the Inspector General of Police for the withdrawal of the security details, saying it is a bad omen for the 2019 polls.
The Senate directed its police affairs committee to liaise with appropriate authorities to ensure the reinstatement of the governor’s security details latest by Thursday.
Apart from the security details, the IGP had redeployed the state police commissioner, deputy and assistant police commissioners and officer in charge of the state special anti-robbery squad.
To replace them, he deployed three police commissioners to the state to coordinate security during the poll.
