*Buhari Orders Re-Opening Of Four Land Borders

Nigeria’s Land Border Closure

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the immediate re-opening of four of Nigeria’s land borders with neighbouring countries

The four borders to re-open are in Illela, Seme, Mfum and Maigatari

The other land borders, including Idiroko in Ogun state are to re-open on December 31

Finance minister, Zainab Ahmed, announced this while briefing the state house correspondents on the outcome of the weekly meeting of the federal executive council at the presidential villa

Vice president Yemi Osinbajo presided over the meeting, which was attended virtually by Buhari who is in Daura, Katsina state on a private visit

The minister explains that the decision, followed a report by a presidential committee set up to examine the implications of the land borders closure Nigeria’s land borders with Niger, Cameroun, Chad and Benin republics were shut down since August 2019 to stop the smuggling of illicit small arms, and contraband, including Rice,  into the country
