President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from approving foreign exchange for the importation of any food items into Nigeria.
According to Buhari, such foreign exchange meant for the food import, should be conserved and spent on programmes to diversify the economy.
Buhari issuing the directive while hosting APC state governors at his country home in Katsina, says Nigeria is recording steady progress in agricultural production and food security.
For instance, Buhari explains that some states such as Ogun, Lagos, Jigawa, Ebonyi and Kano are taking advantage of federal government’s policy on agriculture with massive production of rice.
The president asks other state governments to follow suit.
