President Muhammadu Buhari has formally declared his interest in contesting in the 2019 presidential poll, thereby ending the suspense on whether he will seek re-election or not.
Buhari cleared the air at the meeting of the national executive council of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja.
The President explained he is seeking re-election, following clamour by Nigerians that he contest the 2019 poll.
Buhari said he honoured the council by first notifying it of his decision to seek re-election.
Governor Simon Lalong, addressing newsmen at the end of the meeting which lasted less than one hour, confirmed that Buhari told party leaders he will seek re-election.
The meeting was attended by Senate President and Speaker of the House of Reps, as well as, APC governors, including those of Ogun, Ondo, Adamawa, Plateau, Kano, Bauchi, Jigawa, and Borno states.
Others were governors of Kogi, Kaduna, Sokoto, Lagos, Imo, Zamfara, Casarawa, Osun, Kebbi, Oyo states, as well as Deputy Governor of Edo State.Please subscribe to our newsletter
