Buhari calls for accountability by public officials
President Muhammadu Buhari has said that judges like other public officers must be held accountable for their actions.
He said things are not working in Nigeria because of the failure to hold public officials accountable for their responsibility.
Buhari who stated this in Abuja at the forty sixth conference of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, worried about the slow pace of delivering justice in Nigeria, which he said has attracted complain from international community.
The President represented by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, said he is worried that a case could not be resolved in Nigeria within a reasonable time, saying this is discouraging investors.
“If you look at the environment, sometimes, the administration of justice, processing cases is so slow. A lot of people in the local and international business community complain that we can’t resolve a case within a reasonable time, it goes on and on, and the problem with that is that it slows business and discourages investments because you can hold up major decisions because the court has not made a pronouncement.”
