President Muhamadu Buhari has asked the judiciary to designate some of the existing courts as special courts to speedily handle crime cases.
Such designated special crimes courts, according to the president, should be manned by competent and credible judicial officers to fast-track cases refer to them.
Buhari making the call in Abuja at the opening of the 2019 biennial all Nigeria conference of superior courts, asks judiciary to alternatively start creating a structure for the proposed special crimes court, whose bill is before the national assembly.
The President says he is mindful of the challenges facing the judiciary, following his meeting with the chief justice of the federation, Justice Tanko Mohammed.
He explains that his administration had since increased the budgetary allocation to the judiciary and approved the appointment of more judges to reduce the workloads in courts.
