Bola Kuforiji-Olubi

Former Commerce and Industry Minister, Doctor Bola Kuforiji-Olubi, has died at the age of 80. She died Saturday in Lagos.

A native of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, Kuforiji-Olubi was the first female chairman of the United Bank of Africa in 1984 and first Chairman of the Ogun/Osun River Basin Development Authority between 1976 to 1980.

Kuforiji-Olubi, born on September 28, 1936, was  also a former president of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Vice Chairman on Nigeria foreign policy in year 2000, and member, of the National Sports Commission (1986 to 1989).

In his condolence message, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos said “she wrote her name in gold in the banking industry and was a pace-setter and leader in banking, manufacturing and entrepreneurship not only in Nigeria but also in Sub-Saharan Africa.”
