BASIC EDUCATION: Nigeria needs 1.3m teachers within 6 years

Presidency says the country needs to recruit about 1.3 million teachers over the next six years to address the challenges of acute shortage of quality teachers in the Basic Education sector.

Education Minister, Mallam Adamu Adamu, made this known while flagging of the 2016 teacher professional development organized by the universal basic education commission in Abuja.

The Minister said there was the urgent need for professional and qualitative teachers in the basic education sector, if Nigeria wants to build a global and competitive educational system.

Adamu said that was why the Buhari administration is recruiting 500,000 teachers this year, despite the existing intervention by UBEC.
