Security forces are searching for more bodies of victims of armed bandits who attacked several villages in Niger State.
They are also searching for the bandits to rescue those abducted during the attacks.
Between 40 and 70 people were killed in the attacks on Kwoki, Ajatai, Gwara, Barden, Dowak, Alewa and Sarkin Pawa villages in Shiroro district since last Sunday.
Spokesman of the State Emergency Management Agency, Ibrahim Hassan, who gave the death toll at 40, says it is likely to rise.
He says the bandits who rode on motorcycles shoot indiscriminately and took away several cattle.
The bandits are believed to have launched the attacks from Rugu Forest which covers parts of Zanfara, Katsina, Kaduna and Niger States.
