ATTACK ON REFEREES: Federation Cup match abandoned in Abeokuta

The quarter-final match of the Nigeria Federation Cup between Warri Wolves and Ifeanyi Ubah Football Club, played at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, was abandoned towards the end of regulation time.

Ifeanyi Ubah was leading 1-0 before the match was abandoned in the 88th minute, following the referee’s decision to disallow a goal scored by Warri Wolves in the 88th minute for an off-side.

Ifeanyi Ubah’s goal was scored in the 35th minute by Olamilekan Adeleye, while Warri Wolves had another goal disallowed in the early minutes of the first half.

The match almost turned violent after the 88th minute controversial goal was disallowed, as the Wolves player ran after the center referee, who fled for safety before security men ran to the pitch to put the situation under control.

General Manager of Warri Wolves, Moses Etuh, told newsmen after his team abandoned the game, said Nigeria football will never develop with such officiating.
