ASUU boycotts meeting with Presidency on ongoing varsities’ lecturers strike

ASUU, Presidency begin talks to end lecturers strike

Top officials of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have failed to show up at a scheduled meeting with Presidency officials in Abuja, on the ongoing strike by public universities lecturers.

Labour and employment minister, Senator Chris Ngige, summoned the meeting to get a feedback from ASUU, on the offers made by the Presidency to it, at their last meeting in Abuja.

Those expected at the meeting which failed to hold on Tuesday, included finance and education ministers, chairman of the National Incomes, Salaries and Wage Commission, the executive secretary of the National Universities Commission and representatives of Nigeria Labour Congress.

The meeting was called off after the officials waited in vain for ASUU officials for the renewed talks.

Addressing newsmen after the meeting, Ngige said the meeting will now hold on Thursday.
