ASUU Accuses FG Of Instigating Another Round Of Lecturers Strike

Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has accused the Presidency of defaulting in the timely implementation of the re-negotiated 2009 agreement.

ASUU President, Professor Abiodun Ogunyemi, says lecturers should not be blamed for a fresh disruption of academic activities in public Universities.

Ogunyemi says the fresh release of n25 billion announced by the Presidency is belated.

Education Minister, Mallam Adamu Adamu, last Tuesday, announced the release of additional n25 billion for the payment of allowances of ASUU members.

ASUU President explains that the n25 billion is part payment of the outstanding earned allowances which ought to have been released since last February as agreed.

He pleads with major stakeholders, including patriots, parents, students and Labour leaders, to prevail on Government to faithfully implement the 2009 agreement, to prevent another strike by lecturers.
