Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has faulted the planned trial of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen, for allegedly failing to fully declare his assets.
NBA President, Paul Usoro, in a statement, said the media trial of Onoghen does not follow due process and the rule of law, adding that, it should be stopped.
Usoro expressed concern, over the speed with which the processing of the petition, its investigations, and preparation of charges against the Chief Justice of Nigeria and his arraignment, before the code of conduct tribunal.
Such speed, according to the NBA, is unprecedented in Nigeria’s criminal justice administration.
The NBA also said, Nigerian Judicial Council was not privy to the charges, and ought to have conducted its mandatory disciplinary process before filing the charges.
