The Nigerian Army has said troops deployed on internal security operations, will henceforth adopt the rule of engagement when dealing with murder and arson.
In this regard, the Army warned herdsmen, farmers, militia groups and bandits operating in Adamawa, Benue and Taraba states, to stop the ongoing senseless killings and wanton destruction of properties in the states.
Army spokesman, Brigadier General Texas Chukwu, in a statement, said the army is working with other security agencies to detect and arrest those behind the killings.
He reminded people in the areas that troops deployed in their communities will not joke or persuade anyone while on internal security operation.
Chukwu also warned that army commanders heading troops deployed for operations in the areas who fail to take decisive action against those behind the killings will be court martialed.
“We would like to unequivocally reiterate that the Army Headquarters warns the arsonists and the killers to stop or face decisive action by troops.
“Our Rules of Engagement (ROE) are clear on arson and murder, therefore, no such criminal acts would be allowed in any of the aforementioned states.
“The public is please reminded that when troops are called out for internal security operations, they are not to joke or persuade anyone.
“We have warned our commanders on the ground to take decisive actions or face court martial,” the army spokesman threatened.Please subscribe to our newsletter
