A group of armed cattle thieves have raided four villages in Zamfara State, killing at least ten people.
The villages attacked are in Birnin Magaji.
Spokesman of the state police command, Mohammed Sheu, said the raid is a reprisal attack by the gunmen who had fled to Rugu forest in neighboring Katsina State.
Villagers said that local vigilante had earlier killed an armed bandit, and the cattle thieves demanded that the local militia who killed the bandit be handed over to them.
Last June 2, armed bandits attacked Zanoka village in the state killing more than 20 people.
In the past months, more than 100 people had been killed by armed bandits in the state.
