AREPO/IBAFO: Security forces capture 11 militants, arms

Security forces combing the creeks of Ibafo-Arepo-Ikorodu axis have captured 11 suspected militants in the ongoing operation military operations of Niger Delta militants and oil pipeline vandals.

Commander of the military operation, Lieutenant Colonel Julius Ogbobe giving an update said some of the militants and vandals escaped after the aerial bombardment of the creeks by Airforce planes to other areas.

He explained that the militants have different commanders, some of who had fled the area, while others are still within the creeks.

Colonel Ogbobe said because most parts of the creek was not accessible, the operation has slowed down, but promised that security forces would move further into the creeks later on Friday.

He said 95 arms so far captured during the raid on the militants camps as including eight dane guns, 35 live cartridge, two MOPOL uniforms, one army uniform, 18 cutlasses, two laptops, a fully loaded AK-47 rifle and one general purpose machine gun.

Meanwhile, acting Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has directed security forces deployed to secure the creeks in Ogun and Lagos communities, to demolish buildings and other structures belonging to militants and vandals now on the run.

Also to be demolished are houses belonging to their conspirators in the communities.

Idris who issued the order during an on-the-spot visit to Isawo near Ikorodu, urged residents of the communities attacked by the militants and vandals to return to their home, following the large presence of security forces.

The Police chief commended the police and military personnel clearing the creeks of the militant bases after devastating air raid, for a job well done.

Meanwhile, the flag officer commanding the western naval command, rear admiral Ferguson Boboi, has said that military would establish a base at Majidun, near Ikorodu, to prevent the return of the militants and vandals to the creeks in Lagos and Ogun states.

The naval commander stated this during a visit to Ishawo,Elepete, Arepo and Ibafo, for an on-the-spot assessment of the mopping up of the militants from the creeks in the two states.

Bobboi also said a military outposts would be establish in the area.
