Anyaoku worried over migration of highly qualified Nigerian doctors

Anyaoku asks opponents of restructuring to rethink

Over 4,765 Nigerian medical doctors are now practicing in the United Kingdom.

Former Commonwealth secretary general, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, who made this known, expressed concern over the development, which he blamed on the decay in Nigeria’s health sector.

Anyaoku speaking on the issue at the launch of new equipment at a private hospital in Idemili local government area of Anambra state, said that highly qualified doctors are leaving Nigeria in droves to work abroad.

The situation, according to him is disturbing, considering that in the nineteen sixties and seventies, the Commonwealth rated Nigeria’s health sector as fourth in the hierarchy of health sector efficiency nations.
